Taylor Swift would describe her last relationship as "chaotic".
The 24-year-old star is currently happily single but has had high-profile romances with the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer and Conor Kennedy in the past.
She's currently promoting latest musical offering 1989, which broke records to become the fastest-selling album in the US in 12 years.
Track Out of the Woods, which she wrote with Lena Dunham's boyfriend Jack Antonoff, is believed to be about her One Direction ex Harry Styles, 20.
"My last relationship was so chaotic!" she is quoted as saying by German magazine Bravo.
"I suppose I knew from the beginning that it wouldn't work. That's what I'm singing about here."
Writing lyrics has always been Taylor's way of coping with heartache and her last album, Red, was believed to feature many songs about the breakdown of her romance with Jake, 33.
On 1989 she doesn't only sing about boys, however. Track Bad Blood is believed to refer to a feud with fellow popstar Katy Perry, 30, who is also an ex of John's.
"This is a song to get even with a singer I have beef with!" she teased. "For years I thought we were friends. But nope - she really let me down."
By selling 1.287 million copies of 1989 in its first week, Taylor has beaten her last album Red and become the fastest-selling singer since Eminem's 2002 album The Eminem Show, which previously held the spot.
The savvy businesswoman likely boosted sales by making the clever decision to remove the bulk of her tracks, including single Shake It Off, from music platform Spotify earlier this month.
