There's a lot of new things to love about the NBC reality singing competition "The Voice" when it returns on September 10. In addition to hitting airwaves in the fall for the first time for its third season, the show has announced a number of new game show twists that could make things even more dramatic.
With Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5's Adam Levine , Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton ready to slide back into their signature spinning chairs to survey another crop of potential stars, producers have given them a few new weapons in their quivers this time around.
According to the Associated Press, in addition to trying to win potential team members over with their impassioned pleas after swiveling around to signal their interest, the judges will also have a chance to steal contestants away from one another during the series' "battle rounds."
In addition, there will also be a new "knockout round" that will cut down the number of singers for each coach's team by an unspecified amount. While discussing the changes, executive producer Mark Burnett also hinted at the reality that due to their busy musical careers the current judges may not always be the faces of the show. He said substitutes may be brought in in the future, even if the current gang have their "chairs for life" if they so wish.
The shake-up at "The Voice" comes as the show plans to go head-to-head with another one of the new(ish) kids on the reality singing block, the second season of former "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell's "X Factor." After crowning R&B singer Melanie Amaro last December, "Factor" will return to the air on September 12 with a shaken-up judging panel panel that includes Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.
