On the 21st of April, Ontario's Tokyo Police Club will be releasing a new single, Tessellate. The single is taken from their debut full-length album Elephant Shell, due out 5th May on Memphis Industries.
Tessellate lands roughly a year after their thrill-of-the-now 70k selling EP A Lesson In Crime. In the intervening time Tokyo Police Club have established themselves as the standard bearers of bright young, literate indie rock and have performed on Letterman and at Glastonbury, Coachella, Reading, Leeds (where superfan Win Butler of Arcade Fire provided first aid to keysman Graham from the side of the stage).
Tessellate and parent album; Elephant Shell are built on the same rapid-fire foundations of A Lesson in Crime but there are now new layers of soaring sonic invention. Musically Tessellate encapsulates everything that's great about the manic Tokyo Police Club live experience: searing guitar signatures and keyboard figures, driving backbeats and irresistible sing a-longs. The single serves as confirmation then that Tokyo Police Club are one the most exciting young bands to come out of Canada in a very, very long time.
Tessellate will come backed on the 7" with a Los Campesinos! remix and will also be available as a download.
The band are all set to support the album with an extensive UK tour in May/June 2008.
Tokyo Police Club are David Monks - Vocals, Bass Josh Hook – Guitar, Graham Wright Keyboards, Greg Alsop – Drums.
