The Grammy Award-winning singer, 30, took to the stage at the event last Sunday to sing the US national anthem, but sang the same line twice after appearing to forget the words.
She issued a statement shortly afterwards apologising for the incident and explaining that she got “caught up in the moment”.
According to JustJared.com, she said: 'I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.'
Instead of singing, “O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming”, the Burlesque star sang, “What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming”.
