Today, Christina Aguilera unveiled an inspiring new, global public service announcement for Yum! Brand World Hunger Relief effort, which will kick-off a massive hunger relief campaign in 130+ countries.
The moving and emotional new PSA captures The Voice star during her recent field visit to Rwanda.
The new PSA includes footage from Aguilera’s recent field visit to Rwanda where she witnessed the effects of hunger first hand and helped beneficiaries of WFP’s nutrition programs. Aguilera served food to hungry children who walk miles to and from school each day to receive a hot meal through WFP’s school meals program. She also traveled to a refugee camp that houses more than 18,000 people living in small man-made huts. She spent time with mothers and children at the camp and heard about how they escaped violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Aguilera’s inspirational song, “Light Up the Sky,” plays throughout the :15 and :30 versions of the PSA that will air on television and online starting this month.
Yum captured great shots of her working in local villages, helping to feed families, visiting school children and dancing and singing.
In addition to the new public service announcement, Aguilera raises awareness for the issue through new World Hunger Relief posters at KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell restaurants with the quote “Together, we have the power to save lives and move from hunger to hope,” plus advertising and online efforts, including the campaign’s website, HungertoHope.com.
Aguilera is known globally for her Grammy-award winning voice and more recently, as star of the hit NBC show “The Voice” (new season starts soon). However, many people know less about how she lends her voice to take on what is currently the world’s leading cause of death – hunger – impacting 1 billion of our planet’s citizens.
As a volunteer for Yum Brand’s World Hunger Relief campaign (www.fromhungertohope.com), which benefits the United Nation’s World Food Programme (WFP) and thousands of local food banks worldwide, Christina does much to help raise awareness, spur volunteerism and raise funds. As part of the 2013-14 Yum World Hunger Relief campaign, now the world’s largest public-private partnership, Christina’s images will also appear in nearly 40,000 KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell stores in more than 120 countries in multiple languages, as well as across their many social channels which reach an estimated 50M people who follow them. She has been a volunteer since 2009 – and the program has already provided nearly 500M meals and raised about $150M in unrestricted funds.
