Grand Theft Auto V will be set in Los Angeles, it has been reported.
A source close to Rockstar Games has told Kotaku that the latest open world game in the series will be based in the West Coast city.
The report has also stated that the leap from GTA IV to V will represent a "paradigm shift" in gaming.
Grand Theft Auto IV, so far the only version released on the current generation of consoles, has seen smaller, downloadable games released in later months, as opposed to full-blown GTA III follow-ups Vice City and San Andreas.
It is thought that a change to the formula could be in the works, with several sources suggesting that multiple characters will be playable throughout the game.
The report added that, in addition to being set in modern-day Los Angeles, characters will return from San Andreas and GTA IV.
The website for the game lauched yesterday, albeit with just a homepage, promising a trailer will be released on November 2, with experts predicting the game will be release at some point in 2012.
