Gwyneth Paltrow was betrayed by a friend who was trying to "take her down" but admits she was relieved when a "humiliating" experience happened to her former pal.
Gwyneth Paltrow has branded a former friend "venomous and dangerous" is glad she's out of her life.
The 'Iron Man' star was appalled at the conduct of her unnamed pal who Gwyneth believes deliberately tried to damage her life.
She explained: "Back in the day, I had a 'frenemy' who, as it turned out, was pretty hell-bent on taking me down.
"This person really did what they could to hurt me. I was deeply upset, I was angry, I was all of those things you feel when you find out that someone you thought you liked was venomous and dangerous. I restrained myself from fighting back. I tried to take the high road."
Gwyneth – who has two children, Apple, four, and three-year-old Moses, with her husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin – insists she had the last laugh and felt happy when her one-time friend got her comeuppance. She added in her GOOP newsletter: "One day I heard that something unfortunate and humiliating had happened to this person. My reaction was deep relief and happiness. There went the high road!"
Although Gwyneth did not refer to her friend by name, online gossip site Just Jared claims she is referring to actress Winona Ryder, who was arrested in 2001 for shoplifting almost $5,000 worth of clothes from Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills.
