Gwyneth Paltrow in Vanity Fair's bulls-eye

The actress has appeared several times as a cover girl for the fashion and pop culture magazine that has taken a turn for edgier editorial.

Now Pagesix.com has a theory on why Paltrow has emailed and frantically tried to stop the magazine's insider profie in her.

An alleged affair may be the source of the worry, as sources tell the tabloid news site that Paltrow possibly was having an affair with Miami billionaire Jeff Soffer, who is now married to Elle MacPherson.

Carter - according to Page Six - has assigned celebrity savant scribe Vanessa Grigoriadis to dig deep on Soffer, considered a major Miami player who owns the landmark Fontainebleau Hotel. Grigoriadis is a writer for Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair and for New York Magazine.

Page Six sources say: “Vanity Fair is asking if Gwyneth had an affair with Jeff back in 2008 when he reopened the Fontainebleau. He flew her in for the party, and she stayed at his house.”

Paltrow and rocker Chris Martin wed in 2003. They have two children.

Other items Vanity Fair may be delving into may include Gwyneth and Madonna's chilled friendship, according to Page Six.
