Talking to US Elle, Paltrow – who is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin – said: “I’ve got really into the country thing – Miranda Lambert, Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, Hank Williams and his granddaughter Holly Williams.
“And I love, love Dolly [Parton].”
The 38-year-old actress worked with a singing coach and a guitar teacher for her role as a singer in the new movie Country Strong, in which she appears alongside real-life country star Tim McGraw.
But the mum-of-two also told the US magazine that she feels “kind of dejected” about the lack of female roles available for women over 30.
She said: “There’s a lot that’s OK, but there’s little that’s really good, especially for someone my age.
“Sometimes you find out that something you really liked is going to someone 10 years younger.”
But she added: “I find it heartening that Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock have been able to find and create amazing projects.”
