The 38-year-old, who stars in new flick Country Strong, told British New! magazine: 'It is hard, particularly recently, because I've been doing a lot of promotion for the movie. I wish I could say, 'Ooh, yes, it is great' but my son was sobbing yesterday when I left the house. It was terrible. I could actually cry right now.
'He doesn't understand and it is really hard but, at the same time, you just think, 'Well, I have an opportunity to take this once-in-a-lifetime thing and I will bring that experience home with me and, with any luck, I will be a better mother because of it.'
Paltrow added: 'Also, I end up telling myself it will make me twice as grateful to be getting up with them at 6am on a Tuesday because I have been away doing something like this.'
The 38-year-old, who is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, is mother to Apple, six, and four-year-old Moses - and claims she is just like any other mother.
She said: 'I am like any other regular mum; cooking, cleaning, wiping butts, picking up after the kids, being a wife and helping the kids with their homework. Mind you, I’m terrible at maths. I can't even do my six year-old's maths homework with her.'
