Jessica Simpson was reportedly "shocked and horrified" by Nick Lachey's comments about her dad.
Nick appeared on a US TV show last week and was quizzed on his failed marriage to Jessica. When asked what the best thing about not having Joe Simpson as a father-in-law was, Nick replied, "I don't have to play grab a*s under the table on Easter Sunday."
Jessica was apparently deeply disappointed by Nick's insensitive joke.
"Jessica was shocked and horrified that Nick said what he said. She's upset," a source told RadarOnline.com "Nick might have thought it was funny and he got a cheap laugh, but to Jessica, it wasn't - at all."
Nick also revealed he hadn't spoken to Jessica in around six years.
Both parties have moved on since their divorce was finalised in 2006.
Jessica is currently expecting her second child with fiancé Eric Johnson, while Nick has an eight-month-old son, Camden, with his wife Vanessa Minnillo.
Jessica, 32, seemingly wishes that Nick had kept their relationship out of the interview.
"Jessica was disappointed that he would even speak about her at all. It's been eight years since they were married and six years since they last spoke. Jessica doesn't feel that Nick has a right to speak about her business anymore," the source added. "Jessica was mortified!"
During his TV appearance, the 98 Degrees singer admitted his marriage to Jessica felt like "another lifetime ago" and insisted he never watches old episodes of their MTV show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.
