Over the life of his career, Steve Martin has won an Emmy, two Best Actors from the National Society of Film Critics, three Grammys, two Writers Guild awards and has been nominated for five Golden Globes for acting. Add to that a win on Thursday night at the International Bluegrass Association Entertainer of the Year (with the Stone Canyon Rangers).
Martin and the band took the stage to accept the award, saying "I want to thank all the other nominees ... for losing." He then went on to thank the band, producers John McEuen and Tony Trischka and commented that he is always proud to say that half the people come to their concerts not knowing a thing about bluegrass but they hopefully leave as new fans of the genre.
Other big winners on the night were the Gibson Brothers who won Vocal Group and Album of the Year, the Boxcars for Emerging Artist and Instrumental Group and the combination of Doyle Lawson, J.D. Crowe and Paul Williams who won Collaboration and Gospel Performance.
Much of the night also revolved around celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Bill Monroe.
