It's safe to assume that we won't get any solid details about Kanye West's rumored Cruel Summer follow-up until he's ready to share, but G.O.O.D. Music soldiers Q-Tip and now Big Sean have all but confirmed that Cruel Winter is in the works.
Backstage at Power 106's Cali Christmas Concert in L.A. on Friday night, MTV News caught up with BigSean, who, of course, tried to play coy when asked for an update on the album but he eventually spilled.
"Man it's so god---- cold in Cali, it's a little 'Cruel Winter' in California right now," Sean said jokingly. 'Cruel Winter, you guys want Cruel Winter? Do you like Cruel Summer?' he teased before adding, "All right, well, you might get it."
Back in September on the Bet Hip Hop Awards red carpet Q-Tip, who's rumored to be working closely with 'Ye on the album, dropped the first major hint that Winter was for real. After trying to explain why he didn't appear on Cruel Summer after signing to G.O.O.D. Music earlier this year, Tip just went with this instead: "If there's a Cruel Summer, then there's got to be a Cruel Winter right? That's all I'm saying."
The Detroit MC has so far done his best to remain tight-lipped about the LP, but he noted that Q-tip technically beat him to the punch this time: "Everybody always says I spilled the beans, everybody be like, 'You be talking too much, you be telling me people too much' — but it was Q-Tip who said it, right? And then I just said it again."
While we wait for more details on Cruel Winter, Big Sean is prepping his sophomore album, Hall of Fame: Memoirs of a Detroit Player, for release in early 2013. And over the weekend he premiered the video for his lead single "Guap," which finds him shutting down his hometown Detroit in the middle of a weekday. There's no place like home.
