LOS ANGELES — The folks at BET set their 2012 awards show off right. The stars were bright on the red carpet outside the Shrine Auditorium. Acts like A$AP Rocky and Slaughterhouse rocked the pre-show stage while the evening's nominees, performers and presenters strutted in their Sunday best.
Rap crews like Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group, Birdman and Cash Money Records and Eminem's Slaughterhouse all walked and repped their sets. Others, like Soulja Boy and Flo Rida, decided to play things differently. Soulja walked hand-in-hand with his hunny Diamond, who is nominated for the Best Female Hip Hop Artist award, while Flo strolled with his girl Melyssa Ford. Rather than bring a girlfriend, Big Sean chose his mother as his date.
"I'm winning out here, having her out here with me," the G.O.O.D. Music MC told with his mom by his side. "She enjoy her life having priceless memories; that's better than any award."
"It's so exciting to see his growth and to see his vision come to fruition, because he's worked so hard," Sean's mom said. "It's wonderful."
Big Sean wasn't the only one excited to be at the big show. Young Jeezy seized the moment, and though he isn't performing at the show, he was happy to enjoy the festivities as a fan. Diggy Simmons, French Montana, Future, Swizz Beatz, MGK, A$AP Rocky, Spike Lee and La La Anthony all walked the carpet, but BET executive Stephen Hill summed it all up best when hinting to what the big show has to offer.
"I think there is gonna be a lot of energy, a lot of excitement, a party atmosphere, a family atmosphere," he said. "That's what we try to do every year."
