David Hasselhoff has likened his music to Bruce Springsteen's.
The American star remains best known for his role in TV show Baywatch but has also enjoyed a singing career. His songs were much loved by people in Germany and Austria, where they sold so many copies he received gold records.
David is particularly proud of his song Looking for Freedom, which he performed at the Berlin Wall in 1989.
"I want to do the music I want to do. In Germany, I was singing everything from … 'I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR FREEDOM!' Which is a big anthem and huge hit. Kind of almost a Bruce Springsteen…" he explained to British newspaper The Guardian.
Although he loves music, David is proud of his time playing a lifeguard on Baywatch. Some people joke about the series, but the actor says it deserves its place in history.
"Maybe it's not curing cancer," he said, "but it's about saving lives, about heroes, and good-looking people and women in bathing suits and what's wrong with that when you're at the beach and the weather is the way it is?"
The 60-year-old star is proud that he still has so many fans. While some have suggested young people ridicule him, it's not how David sees it.
He cites one particular trip to a UK nightclub which opened his eyes to the level of his fame.
"I mean, they dress up in discos as me. We went to one in Hertfordshire and there were 1,200 people dressed up as me. They told me they loved me," he recalled. "And at first I thought, these guys are making fun of me. But they're not. They're really not. They think it's retro and cool."
