David Hasselhoff believes he has been nicknamed "out of respect".
The American actor-and-singer has amassed an impressive fan base since starring in popular TV shows Baywatch and Knight Rider. David has acquired a moniker since being in the public eye, and the star thinks this is testament to his notable reputation.
"Ninety nine per cent of people now call me The Hoff – and it's out of respect," he assured in an interview with British newspaper The Telegraph.
"I think people know that I've got a good heart. If I do something wrong, I'm the first to say 'Boy, did I f**k up.'"
David also counts Canadian superstar Justin Bieber as a fan. The 60-year-old star believes his younger supporters keep him current.
"He wanted to wear a T-shirt that said 'I'm with the Hoff at the MTV awards.' Can you believe that? I got Bieber Fever," he exclaimed.
"Because it means I'm current with the kids. Because it means I'm hip."
