John Legend wishes he was more "tortured".
The singer is known for his smooth soul tracks and has collaborated with the likes of Kanye West and Magnetic Man.
Despite having scooped several Grammys and a MOBO Award, the 34-year-old occasionally wonders if a moodier exterior would be beneficial to his music.
"I sometimes wish I was a little more tortured. Maybe it would make me even more interesting as an artist," he joked to British newspaper The Guardian.
The star is currently loved up with his model fiancée Chrissy Teigen and the pair are busy planning their wedding.
John has had his fair share of turmoil, but has managed to remain level-headed throughout.
"Everybody has their demons and conflicts. I went through my parents' divorce and there have been issues with my family, things that have been hard for me," he admitted.
"But for some reason I have a very even temper. Maybe as a way of coping. I just don't have a lot of emotional extremes."
The singer's tracks include the romantic Ordinary People and Who Do We Think We Are.
While they might seem like good background songs to some people, John would rather listen to something else when feeling amorous.
"No. I don't think I have. I haven't done it in a long time, put it that way," he answered when asked if he had made love to one of his songs.
"I feel like it's too much narcissism. I don't even like having sex to current artists that I'm friends with. I feel too close to them, I know them, I've had conversations with these people... so I keep it old-school with my sex stuff."
