The Wanted thought their track with Justin Bieber was too "cheesy".
The British boyband released their new record Word of Mouth this week, their first since 2011's Battleground. They laid down a track with Justin for the LP, but it didn't make the final cut.
"We're sticking to what we know. We did do something with Justin Bieber, and it was good, but we felt like we were being a bit fake," Jay McGuiness told British magazine Heat. "It sounded cool when he did it, but a little cheesy when we did it. But it's probably got more of an R&B feel."
Jay and his bandmates Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes are proud of their latest album and can't get enough of listening to it. It's their music of choice before they go out for the night.
"Yeah, we do now," Jay laughed, when asked if they listen to the record. "We had so many demos floating around, so now that we've got the full album we always whack it on.
"It's the classic Wanted party tracks that you're going to want to dance to when you're out. It's been two years [since our last album] and there have been ups and downs personally for a lot of the fellas, so they'll hear the history behind some of the melancholy songs."
Last month, Max got drunk and shaved off part of Jay's curly mane of hair. He has now rectified the situation with the help of a top stylist but has insisted he won't be de-fuzzing himself to celebrate Word of Mouth.
"I'm running out of places to shave now. Maybe we'll get on Siva. He's still got a glorious head of hair. Though he'd be devastated if we did."
